In the rainy months of April and May 2025, which is the long rains season, you’ll see lush landscapes and fewer crowds, but animals may be slightly harder to spot due to abundant water and vegetation.

Logistics of the 10-Day Off-the-Beaten-Path Tanzania Safari

This 10 Days Tanzania Safari is a road safari. You will be travelling in a private 4×4 vehicle with a pop-up roof, ensuring comfort and great views during game drives.

Your journey starts in Arusha, with drives of 2-3 hours to Lake Manyara, 4-5 hours to Lake Natron, 5-6 hours to Serengeti via Loliondo, 3-4 hours to Ngorongoro, 1-2 hours to Lake Eyasi, 2-3 hours to Tarangire, and finally 3-4 hours to Kilimanjaro International Airport for flights back home. Despite of the length of the tour and  locations involved, it is still a well balanced road safari which can be taken even with your children and the elderly folk.

Your expert private safari guide will lead all activities, with the vehicle equipped for photography. He will also be incharge of balancing the park entry permits which are usually issued on 24 our basis but with a single entry policy.

Day 0

Arrival at Kilimanjaro – Transfer to your hotel

You’ll land at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where your guide will greet you and transfer you to your lodge in Arusha, a 1-hour drive. You’ll settle into a comfortable room, enjoy a welcome dinner, and receive a safari briefing to prepare for your adventure. You’ll spend the night in Arusha, resting before your 10-Day Off-the-Beaten-Path Tanzania Safari begins.

Day 1

Transfer to Lake Manyara Park for safari.

Your safari starts in Arusha, where you’ll board a 4×4 vehicle for a 2 hour drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a 330 km² gem known for its soda lake and forests.

You will start your first game drives immediately on arrival until midday whe you will make a brief stop at a picnic site for lunch.  After a picnic lunch, you’ll embark on an afternoon game drive, exploring the park’s groundwater forests and lake shores, where you may spot elephants, giraffes, hippos, or tree-climbing lions, though sightings depend on luck.

Manyara is home to over 400 bird species, so another bird lovers haven in Northern Tanzania.
Later you’ll transfer to your lodge in Lake Manyara for a hearty dinner and a restful night in a cozy room with escarpment views.

Ranger guided walking safari, canopy walks and ziplining are among optional activities which can be arrange din lake Manyara National Park, as well as night game drives.

Day 2

Drive to Lake Natron via Engaruka Ruins.

After an early breakfast at your lodge in Lake Manyara, you’ll drive 4-5 hours to Lake Natron, a remote soda lake with stark volcanic landscapes. You will make a brief stop at the Engaruka Ruins before heading to Lake Natron where you will arrive at your camp for lunch. After lunch and some rest you will set out on an afternoon waterfall hike to Engaresero Falls, trekking 1-2 hours through scenic gorges with your guide, where you can swim in natural pools, weather permitting.

You’ll return to your camp for a filling dinner under the stars, with campfire stories adding to the remote ambiance. Most lodges here arrange Maasai Dances during or before dinner. You’ll spend the night in an en-suite tent, surrounded by the rugged beauty of Lake Natron, ready for more exploration. Overnight at Lake Natron Camp. All meals included.

Day 3

Explore Lake Natron's Masai Land

After an early breakfast at your camp in Lake Natron, you’ll join a morning lake walk along Lake Natron’s shores, where you might see flamingos and many other bird species, though sightings depend on luck.

Your guide will explain the lake’s unique ecosystem and its role as a flamingo breeding ground. You will go back to your lodge / camp for lunch and some rest and there after in the afternoon, you’ll visit an authentic Maasai village, meeting warriors, learning about culture and their traditions.

You’ll return to your camp for dinner and overnight, resting in your comfortable tent after a day of culture and exploration. Overnight at Lake Natron Camp. All meals included.

On this day you have an optional activity; climbing Oldoinyo Lengai Mountain. For the adventurous, an optional midnight-to-morning hike up Oldoinyo Lengai, an active volcano ($100-$150 per person), offers a strenuous 6-8 hour trek with sunrise views at the peak. Oldoinyo lengai is a semi active volcano. Please arranged in advance.

Day 4

Transfer to Central Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast at your camp in Lake Natron, you will check out and embark on our drive; 5-6 hours to Central Serengeti via Loliondo Game controlled area entering through Kleins Gate. You will enjoy en-route game viewing where you may spot zebras, giraffes, gazelles, impalas and many other animals depending on luck, along this less-traveled route. You’ll check in at the camp for a dinner by the campfire and overnight in an en-suite tent, immersed in Serengeti’s wild sounds.

The Great Migration (July-October) brings wildebeests to Northern Serengeti, so the tour can be customized with accommodations in Northern Serengeti.

Day 5&6

Full day safari in Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast at your camp, you can choose morning and afternoon drives, starting at sunrise to seek predators like leopards or hyenas, or a full-day drive with a packed lunch under an acacia or one of the designated picnic sites inside the park, venturing deeper into the savannah. Alternatively, you may enjoy sunrise and sunset drives, returning to your camp for lunch and relaxation.

With a little luck you may spot all the Big Five ans many other animal species . Serengeti is also home to many bird sopecies as well as reptiles.
Your guide will be in contact with other guides through HF radio which will help you locate interesting sightings of the day. Late afternoon you will be taken back to our lodge/camp for campfire and overnight.

These two days will be spent exploring the Serengeti at your own pace. This is a private safari so you will be discussing our preferences with your private safari guide at all times.

 An optional hot air balloon safari at sunrise ($550-$600 per person) offers aerial views of herds and predators, followed by a champagne breakfast. You’ll end with dinner at the camp and overnight in your tent.

Day 7

Transfer from Serengeti to Ngorongoro

After an early breakfast at your camp in Central Serengeti, you’ll drive 3-4 hours to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, enjoying en-route game viewing where you might see giraffes, zebras, as well as other animals like impalas, gazelles and many others.

On your way, you can choose an optional Maasai village visit, to meet locals, watch traditional dances, and browse crafts, or visit Olduvai Gorge to explore a world-famous archaeological site, both at additional cost. You’ll stop for a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint, taking in the transitional landscapes.

Aarriving in the afternoon at Ngorongoro Highlands, you can choose to relax and take a nap or take a dip in the swimming pool to cool off from the African sun. You may also take an optional tour to meet the Iraqw people or stroll in the Karatu township, or a coffee plantation tour. Another optional activity available is a nature walk along the Endoro Trail inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area or the Crater rim nature walk before exiting the NCA.
Dinner and overnight will be at Farm of Dreams Lodge at Karatu, located a short distance outside the conservation area.

Day 8

Ngorongoro Crater tour – Transfer to Lake Eyasi

After an early breakfast at your lodge near Ngorongoro, you’ll descend into Ngorongoro Crater’s 260 km² floor for a morning game drive, home to over 30,000 animals, where you may see many animals including lions, black rhinos, elephants, leopards etc. Ngorongoro Crater is also home to many bird species (over 500 recorded). You will spend the the most of the day exploring this incredible wildlife area, which is often referred as the Eden of Africa.

Later in the afternoon, you will drive 2-3 hours to Lake Eyasi and visit the Datoga tribe, learning about their blacksmithing and pastoral traditions and get a chance to try your hands on the same. You will arrive at your lodge in Lake Eyasi for a local dinner and overnight in a comfortable room with hill views, ready for the Hadzabe experience tomorrow morning. Day 9

Hadzabe Bushmen tour - Transfer to Tarangire

At dawn you will take a quick cup of coffee and snack then you will be driven to the bushh where you will join the Hadzabe Bushmen at Lake Eyasi for a hunter-gathering experience. With the translation by your local guide, you will learn a lot about their culture and tradioon as well as join them (if you wish) for tracking game and foraging as well as honey harvestin with this ancient tribe, a highlight of your off-the-beaten-path journey.

After returning to your lodge for breakfast, you’ll drive 3-4 hours to Tarangire National Park, arriving for an afternoon game drive in its 2,850 km² expanse. You will take picnic lunch at the gate or any of the picnic sites inside the park and proceed with ab afternoon in the Tarangire.

Tarangire is famous for its large herds of elephants and huge old baobab trees but the park is home to many other animal species. Over 550 bird species, like the ashy starling, brighten your drive. You will transfer to your camp in Tarangire for a gourmet dinner in a stylish dining tent and overnight in an upscale tent with bush views, recharging for the final day. Overnight at Korongo Luxury Camp inside Tarangire or similar. All meals included.

Optional activities at Tarangire includes; Hot air balloon safaris in the morning, walking safaris, and night game drives, all which should be arranged in advance.

Day 10

Tarangire - Arusha - Departure

After an early breakfast at your camp in Tarangire, will set off for a morning safari game drive, exploring baobab plains where you might spot cheetahs, zebras, or buffaloes etc. Your guide will seek out wildlife hotspots, maximizing your final safari moments. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, surrounded by scenic landscapes.

In the early afternoon, you’ll drive 3-4 hours to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure, concluding your 10-Day Off-the-Beaten-Path Tanzania Safari.

An optional day-use room in Arusha ($50-$100 per person) is available for late flights, ensuring a comfortable end to your journey.
